Single Origin Coffees
The flavour characteristics of a coffee bean are heavily influenced by where that bean is grown. While it is common for different beans from different regions to be blended, only single blends can give you the complete experience of a region.
Occasionally, we are are able to stock such single origins for a short period of time. You can read up on some of our past beans below:
September 2011: Bolivian, Eleuteria Villca
Grown at high altitude, and partly shaded by native forrest, this family run farm produces a bean with a crisp citric acidity, sugary sweetness and juicy mouth feel. It has notes of black cherry and plum.
November 2010: Rwandan, Musasa
The Musasa Cooperative is one of the larger farms in the Rushashi District, and has been producing high quality beans since 2003. The coffee we have this month is a sweet bourbon coffee with a distinctive floral edge. It has a clean, clear cup.
January 2010: Guatemalan Santa Clara
The Zelaya family has been growing coffee for over 100 years and four generations. This renowned family owns farms throughout Guatemala and grows one of only a handful of genuine ‘Antigua’ coffees. The coffee is transparent, with bright acidity, excellent fruit quality, hints of peaches and apricots, a silky mouthfeel and is very well balanced. Good for espresso and filter.
December 2009: Costa Rican, Finca Bella Vista
Finca Bella Vista is located in Ceiba Este at an altitude of 1,600 metres. The farm has some 15 hectares of coffee plantations. It is very transparent and elegant; Balanced, with good sweetness and almost teal like characteristics, with notes of honey and bergamot. It has a bright acidity.
November 2009: Guatemalan Finca Las Nubes
This single origin is grown on a small, family-owned farm and was the winner of the Cup of Excellence Award in 2001. It has a bright lemon taste; is clean on the palate and has a smooth dark cocoa finish. It is perfect as an espresso or long black.
